The West Garrison Avenue Historic District includes more than 50 historical buildings built before 1912. The area was significantly affected by a major tornado in September of 1996, which destroyed 13 historic buildings. Today, Garrison Avenue is home to some great bars, restaurants and shopping in addition to the various historic sites on and around the avenue.
